UD, Ltd. was retained initially by members of the Ward 7 community to design a Mixed-Use Campus District having an African American cultural theme. The primary focus would be to re-establish Hough Avenue as a strong, vibrant commercial thoroughfare that would attract reputable well known tenants as well as start-ups while addressing ongoing business concerns.

The design motif was generated from a neighboring historic abandoned bank building with its sandstone piers and entry detailing. Yet we infused a sense of modernity into the design with the use of curved insulated glazing systems allowing for the llarge sections of glass to significantly open creating a dynamic relationship with indoor and outdoor space
